The Thunderbird’s unique “reversed” zig-zag body design and equally distinct headstock was the brainchild of legendary automotive designer and visionary Ray Dietrich, enlisted by Gibson to bolster the guitar lines of the early ’60s and help solidify the company’s eminent rank among solidbody electric guitar manufacturers.

The most highly respected of all Gibson basses, the Thunderbird was reissued in 1987. This Thunderbird Custom Shop edition is one of the first and has never been gigged, in completely original condition and would make a great addition to any Bass collection.

The guitar has been Pro Setup here at the 12th Fret Workshop (Winchelsea, East Sussex) and subsequently plays very well with minimal relief in the neck, a good action height and 100% accurate intonation.
